Item: Edie Hales Ironwood Pot
Designer/Maker: Edie Hales – Very active in the Scottsdale arts community, Edie Hales was a long-time member of the Arizona Designer Craftsmen. Starting in the late 1960s Hales began working primarily in ironwood, a notoriously difficult material to carve. Boxes, weed pots and small sculptures in ironwood became her specialty and she went into business with her friends Jane Welsh and Beverly Hunt. Together, they opened the Mind’s Eye Gallery on Marshall Way in the 1970s and all three served as officers in the Arizona Designer Craftsmen.
